Cari is a healthtech startup focusing on improving patient experience with sleep apnea and long-term respiratory health management. Cari Medical is developing a digital mask selection tool that helps sleep apnea patients choose the mask best suited to their respiratory conditions, facial anatomy and sleep habits.
Almost 1 billion people around the world are affected by obstructive sleep apnea, a sleep disorder which causes breathing interruptions and disturbs sleep. Patients suffer higher risks of heart attack, stroke and other health problems. Poor sleep quality drastically lowers a patient’s quality of life, affecting their work and family life.
CPAP is a widely used sleep apnea therapy that pumps air into the patient’s airway through a snuggly fitted mask. Having a well-fitted mask is crucial to ensuring the comfort and efficiency of the therapy. However, many patients have limited access to clinical guidance on mask selection and management. The current mask fitting approach can only be done in person, which can become time-consuming and costly for both patients and clinics.
